It may be a question of entrapment

From MSNBC:

"An Oklahoma pharmacist has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole for first-degree murder in the shooting death of a teenager who tried to rob the south Oklahoma City pharmacy where he worked."

Having not been on the jury and heard all the testimony, I have a hard time concluding whether this is a just or unfair sentence. However, from what I gather from news outlet sources only, this conviction/sentence appears to have similarities with an entrapment case.

Cigarettes in San Francisco Pharmacies

News that makes me go, "Good grief!"

This is an opinion piece I wrote on October 22, 2008.

Board passes tobacco ban in pharmacies

This is an article released by the San Francisco Chronicle in July 2008. A month ago, the cigarette ban in pharmacies went into effect. I certainly agree that cigarette smoking is terrible for your health, and the health of others and I support regulating it and not promoting it. But, I also feel that passing righteous, hypocritical laws does not serve the public good.

Germ Warfare In the Kitchen

I was recently in a discussion with a friend regarding the "evils" of advertising. As surfing the internet routinely shows us, it can certainly be annoying. The dancing girl ads that have nothing to do with the product the company is selling. The annoying flashing colors. The talking smileys. The popups and of course, the junk mail. On TV, the volume goes up to make sure you are awake from that boring movie to hear about some yuppies credit score.

Beyond A Reasonable Doubt - Casey Anthony

Yesterday, the verdict was returned in the Casey Anthony trial. Not guilty on all the murder charges. Like many others, I was shocked at the outcome. By all accounts, through the testimony and newspapers, she sure seemed guilty to me. However, after a small amount of critical thinking, I applaud the jury in this case. In the U.S. we should not be convicting people of crimes on the basis that the person "seemed guilty".

The 9th Rock - Pluto

This is an opinion piece I wrote on September 20, 2008 regarding Pluto.

Since it's discovery in 1930, Pluto has held the distinction of being our solar systems 9th planet. However, on August 24, 2006, the IAU (International Astronomical Union) reclassified Pluto as a "dwarf planet". To this, I say, "Bravo!".

Atheist, Agnostic and Apathist

The atheist in me knows there is no god. The agnostic in me realizes you can never be certain. Yet, the apathist in me wonders why I even care.

Airline Bags - One of my favorite jokes

A guy walks up to the airline ticket counter and says, "I'd like to buy a ticket to Philedalphia and I have 3 bags to check. However, I want one bag to go to New York, one to Los Angeles, and one to Miami." The ticket person says. "I'm sorry Sir, we can't send your bags to 3 different places, especially since none of the places are where you are flying to." So, the guy says, "Well, you did it the last time I flew, and I didn't even have to ask!"

Google+ / Google Plus and search rankings

As of June 28, 2011, Google added the ability to "plus" a web site. This action will add the web site to your Google social networking profile so that your friends can view what sites or pages you like. Of course, I "plused" one of my own sites. Some time later, I used a search term I was targeting on Google to check my site's search result placement (SERP) and noticed that my web site jumped from page 4 to page 2 on Google. After some investigation, I found that the result only happened on a computer that I was logged into Google with.
